The city of ice of Harbin

Every year, during this week, we get pictures of these wonderful ice buildings. They are more spectacular at night, when lights give them different colors.

It is the Harbin International Ice and Snow Sculpture Festival. It takes place every 5th January since 1963. Harbin is located in the northwest of China, a very cold area with average winter  temperatures of -16,8ºC. With this temperature ice doesn't have risk to melt.

The size of the ice structures is awesome. In 2007 entered the Guinness Book thanks to the world's largest snow sculpture: 250 meters long and a volume of 13.000 cubic meters of snow.

What always catch the eye are the long ice slides. Slide is never a problem here.

I attach some of the most awesome pictures of the festival.
